Notes

Debut album. Released in the UK on Brunswick on 3 December 1965. It was released in the US on Decca on April 26, 1966, as "The Who Sings My Generation" with a different cover and a slightly different track listing, with an edited version of "The Kids Are Alright."

Reissued in 2002 as an expanded deluxe edition in stereo, and again in 2016 as a super deluxe edition.

The best CD version of My Generation! This mono mix from the original master tapes sounds raw and organic, with thumping bass and great highs. Plus you get the original guitar and vocal overdubs on several of the songs. Ditch the 2002 stereo mix and track down this Japanese SHM-CD edition.

I found one for $3 in a cheapie bin, but it has audible non-fill for the beginning of the first track on each side. Damn shame.

Maybe a few crackles at the beginning of each side but after a few seconds your totally fine, a cheap pressing but worth adding to your collection

Picked this up new for $9. Surprisingly had never listened to this album in full. Pressing is quiet. Recording feels pretty spartan but I get the sense this is more the original master than an issue with this particular recording. Can’t believe how good this is.

not the greatest sounding for sure. But part of that adds to the "originality" of the music. I would love to hear another pressing to see if it is just this master/pressing. A little dissapointed in the sound, but hey, for $9 new I can't complain too much. Cheers.

I'd rather have had this boxed, with more liner notes, but beside that it is an excellent release. The mono versions are far superior to the stereo mixes and the second album with tracks from singles is almost as good as the main album. Heavy, silent vinyl and excellent sound. Very nice.

Probably by mistake, the regular and alternate (characteristic feature - twangy guitar in the instrumental bridge section around 2:20-2:30) versions of Circles are swapped on the box set as well as other releases (LP/HD download - HDtracks feature only the alt. version).
