I simply do not get it. Styrofoam has nothing memorable to offer on his latest record. These songs lack any groove, soul, and goose-bump inducing melodies. Even the addition of the 'who's who' of electronic indie-pop stars does nothing to rescue this album from absolute boredom. "Nothing's Lost" reminds me of another terrible disappointment of 2004-- "Apropa't" by Savath and Savalas.
The current onslaught of composers trying to cash in on the Postal Service's twee electronic emo-pop is annoying. The themes here are quite simple: hipster girl dumps hipster boy at the Gap, and mom and dad buy him a new powerbook w/ Garageband give him a vehicle to express his despair. Not to take anything away from Styrofoam's production skills, as he is indeed a good producer- just a weak songwriter. Unfortunately this is his programming abilities are the only strength on what I consider to be one of the worst albums of 2004. This music goes nowhere.
