- I love this album, but this particular pressing is rather disappointing. I guess it's good on clarity, but at the expense of bass, so that it sounds thin and unpleasant. On top of this, the music volume is rather low and the surface quite noisy. To be fair, I seem to remember from my youth that the versions I listened to back then weren't great either. The length of the album maybe didn't help. In any case I'd recommend looking for better versions elsewhere.
- I just love how dynamic this mix is. The quite parts are indeed quite and the loud ones explosive. But the mix is also very scooped and the midrange is toned down. You can easily "fix" it with your amps tone controls.

Great sounding pressing here like almost all German vinyl i have ever owned if cant get a uk original then this is next go 2 copy- Edited 4 months agoDefinitely not as impressive as my OG Japanese pressing which is more open and dynamic. The soundstage is pushed back a bit with a muddier and more quiet output.
Although the Japanese pressing is also slightly crackled, this was way worse even with a spin clean treatment. I will chalk it up to the relatively poor quality of my copy.
I also had slight different matrices which I couldn't identify elsewhere:

- Edited 4 months agoBought a VG/VG+ copy for 10 CAD from an independent seller. Some clicks here and there, with a lot of surface noise. A nice album for the fans of this era of the band, but the mastering quality is definitely not the best in class... It sounds a bit muffled, compressed, lacking clarity and dynamics on my system. A bit too anemic for my taste. But I'm still happy having added it to my collection for only a few bucks. 2.75 / 5

Absolutely appalling artwork butchery on these mid 80s editions. Really, really bad taste.- Edited 8 months agoSince Genesis proved the world wrong with the success of ATOTT in 1975, their first album after Peter Gabriel left they were on a mission and in late 1976 along came the follow up. It’s a different if less cohesive beast but Banks really shines on this one, again with his majestic One For The Vine.
Your Own Special Way is a really warm and beautiful ballad that starts as a waltz and ends up in 2/2 for the chorus!
The opening Eleventh Earl Of Marr is a bit of bombast that I was never really sure about. It kind of harks back to The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway a bit. Blood on The Rooftops is a great track with lovely nylon string guitar introduction by Hackett. This would be his last album by the way as the material he was offering was pushed aside by the rest of the band. It’s bizarre that All in a Mouses Night and Wot Gorilla were deemed more important than his work as these are pretty mundane. I do like Wot Gorilla but it’s an instrumental and more like filler than anything else. Three songs never made in to the album that saw the light of day as an EP soon after, Match of The Day, Pigeons and Inside And Out. These would have been good in the track listing.
The 1986 CD always sounded bland, plus it has butchered artwork. I haven’t heard the 1994 Definitive Edition but this one is remixed. It’s not bad but I feel everything is loud, even the quiet passages. - Edited 8 months agoWhy the big white box for the track listing? Very ugly. This album was released in December 1976, not 1977 as it says on the copyright!
