Sounds very authentic to the Nile I love. Very punchy! No complaints.

It does look awesome, I have a light above my turntable and it makes those green splatters look amazing.

Unfortunately though, you can also hear those splatters. I have multiple albums with splatter vinyl and this one is the first I can hear them from. Sure, Nile drowns it over (pun intended) but when track goes to another there's like this locomotive in distance going through desert.

Also maybe mixed a tad too much towards low frequency.

Sounds great! Good dynamics, separation, clarity. An incredible album that sounds even better on vinyl! Great colors, too.

The album "In Their Darkened Shrines" is almost a real book. The band has never made such a deep journey into the world of Ancient Egypt either before or after... and I don't know if anyone else is destined to conquer this milestone. On the one hand, this is a great composer's work. On the other hand, it looks like a movie, but in which not only a large budget, but also the team involved has serious knowledge of the case.

The musical composition is harmonious, cinematic and impressive, a wonderful magical oasis of a lost civilization is drawn before the eyes. According to excerpts of books, from memory from school textbooks and encyclopedias, from documentary and artistic films, the imagination draws an essentially unknown, but at the same time familiar from collective images of the world. Despite the brutal ultra-technical Death Metal pieces, the album is revealed through ritual and meditative passages that serve as a kind of catacomb tunnels connecting musical themes. Favorite tracks - damn it, everything! Not a single passing song, but fragments of "Kheftiu Asar Butchiu", "Sarcophagus", "Unas Slayer of the Gods", "I Whisper in the Ear of the Dead" and epochal "In Their Darkened Shrines" are really breathtaking. Personally - so far the most favorite album of Nile as I happened to hear it almost twenty years ago. Yes, there are albums in some ways superior to the ITDS somewhere more brutal, somewhere more technical, somewhere with a more developed sound. But the atmosphere that they created here, not only did not surpass - not even close to repeating.

The new reissue from Relapse turned out to be really cool: first of all, because of the sound characteristics. The sound is powerful, rich, balanced, loud. In my opinion, the mastering is done optimally for such a brutal musical material. If you've listened to this album on CD before and don't expect anything special from it, then most likely vinyl will convince you otherwise. Separately, I will note the color design of the vinyl - both records look just great and each has its own unique pattern. The gatefold contains detailed comments about the meaning and history of each track (the same notes were in the CD edition). At the same time, the lyrics are printed on a separate insert. Like a fly in the ointment - both vinyls were packed in the cheapest paper envelope without protection. It would be nice if Relapse, as a respected label with a long history, agreed with the GZ factory to use more presentable vinyl packaging. Otherwise, everything is just fine.

Do not agree with kolddaemon's critique about the terrible distortion. Surely it's not the most prestine pressing i've ever heard, but after a proper cleaning (owning this for more than 15 years now) it's still punchy as fuck! Only towards the end of each side the guitars get a bit blurrier, which a lot of records tend to do.

Good looking pressing with nice cover.... but terrible sound quality ! A lot of distortion all along the two records, especially on the cymbals ! It's a pity as this album is one of the best Nile albums in my opinion.

Absolutely gorgeous green/gold merge vinyl. Nice center labels and the gatefold presentation is gorgeous. Sounds just like the cd :) \m/ The best Nile album in my opinion from their golden era
