will.i.am* – #willpower

Gave it a spin and it wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. The guests don't feel out of place, hearing Diddy say "bitch" twenty times over on the "Scream & Shout Remix" was cool and Will.i.Am is able to get as concious as he can over bubble gum house music - just take a look at "Ghetto,Ghetto" or "The World Is Crazy".
Given the uptempo feel of this , and just about every BEP release, "Geekin'" is a standout here - the way Will flips that Intel logo - that and Apl's tounge in cheek rhymes on "Gettin' Dumb" , plus Wayne's jokes on that "Scream & Shout" remix make up for the rest of the album's pop heavy guests. Hell, even French Montana throws a bar shouting out the Juice Crew and Slick Rick while Miley Cyrus sings about possibly giving sexual favors to Will.i.Am just to get on this album on that "Chillin'" record so that more so than makes up for "This Is Love" , and "Hello" which just should have been left on the cutting room floor (where Skylar Grey's underutilized vocals for "Love Bullets" are most likely misplaced).
I am glad I stuck through those records and heard the whole thing though , which ends on a sobering note that contradicts the flossing throughout this record.
But hey, that's just a Will.i.Am production - which I have now come to learn is not as one dimensional as I once thought it was.

We definately lost Will I Am for good. He's not into music anymore but into money making really bad EDM. Sad !

I've never liked Will.I.Am nor any of his bands or projects but found myself enjoying the video of "#thatpower" on MTV one night. As a fan of electronic music I was surprised to see Will.I.Am delivering a great song full of electronic sounds that seemed to take the best of House music but add some kind of unique Will.I.Am twist. I decided to check out the album…

Although there are a couple of typical hip hop moments, this album illustrates how a new influence can cause an artist to create masterpieces. Many European House influences are clearly evident, but it's clear that Will.I.Am has been moved by them yet managed to create tunes that, at times, exceed the influences.

The electronic sounds provide a great juxtaposition with the lyrics and make this album sound almost ahead of its time despite the House music influences that have been trendy in Europe for decades. There's a positiveness in songs like "Hello" and "Great Times Are Coming" that are a breath of fresh air. Will.I.Am jumps across genres yet the electronic beats keep songs like "Far Away From Home" (my favorite) and "Bang Bang" fresh sounding. Even the more Hip Hop songs, like "The World Is Crazy" keep me listening (but not with the kids in the room).

It's a surprisingly good album that turns music genres upside down.

This is the infamous album with a that Mat Zo song that was never cleared by Anjunabeats, record label which owns the rights to it.
Although Discogs.com won't acknowledge bootlegs.. this album has recently surfaced in the streets of Mexico City as a bootleg, being sold for about 1.5 dollars.
