Ambiance and depth is the primary focus of DeepChord and Rod Modell
has a really defined approach to his productions which has gained DeepChord a quite mature and serious following amongst his peers.
This release echoes the early Matrix releases like Convextion 1 and Psycofuk and what is important in this mention is that those releases which are now 12 years old, still have plenty of life left in them and have not dated whatsoever. And it is an equal balance on the later releases which are quite good yet never really steer away from the original blueprint. That being one written by Basic Channel in what seems to be a nice underground run of 15 years. But beware, there are dozens of records spanning many years here. Be sure to listen to them all or you will wind up with a crate of records that are collecting dust because they go from strength to strength. That being said every collection should not be void of the vibrant history of the names I previously mentioned. The good thing is that they are on a timeless wavelength.

I wouldn't expect any less from Deep Chord, and certainly #16 is no exception. Four incredible dubby tracks from master Rod Modell. Mr. Modell has been manipulating organic sounds for years with many environmental ambient works. With Deep Chord, you get as natural and warm a sound you could ever get from raw, hissing analog synths. "Lama Temple" and "Hex Craft" are, I believe, the most powerful, and almost familiar coming from the Deep Chord family. This 12" is a strong piece that offers some variety yet within the echoing boundaries of DC. "Mars Oil" spills out with soothing ambient reverberation and a touch of elegance. If you don't have any Deep Chord, and have trouble finding older releases, get this one while it's out, 'coz they go fast. Similar artists: BASIC CHANNEL, MIKKEL METAL.
