As the chords that start off Fairmont's COLOURED IN MEMORY merge into a phased set of vocals, you know what you're in for: a unique mix of shoegazer techniques with modern tech-house. "Darling's Waltz" is thick with the layers, even as the high-pitched ringing tones pierce through. "Pomegranate" goes for a more sedate mode, as does the slightly more moody "Sedatives For The Sentimental," but "I Need Medicine" brings back both the beats and the vocals for a full dose of tech-psychedelia. "1995," meanwhile, insinuates with a sleazy slide, while the languorous "Calm Before The Storm" drifts along. "All Good Things" starts to reach for transcendence, and "Time's Fool" fades out gently. Perfect for listening to while driving through a thick fog.
