Reviews
- it grooves, it chills, it vibes. im not overly familiar with dub as a genre as im a classic trance DJ but i stumbled upon OTT by pure chance and im really glad i did. without any hesitation i went full OTT on bandcamp and got it all on vinyl and it sounds superb. recommended for any electronic fan.
- Yeah, "The Queen of All Everything" is top. I do think that the strings at the end are extra. Every good DJ should mix out of the song before it hits that point.
- Much more interesting than the previous album. This album is more about rhythm and beats, whereas I find the first album slower and more spherical. It feels like during the development of this album Ott found a new dimension and added it on top of what he already had in the first album. This results in better flow and a more unison piece of music, yet the tracks are very different. My favorite has always been Roflcopter, but that's only because it was the only track that really stood out. The album as a whole is really good. Comparing Ott to Shpongle or Shulman isn't really fair, since this is more dub. I do prefer the other artists, because they are more melodic, but what Ott lacks in melody he makes up in production skills, which blows the other two out of the water. Recommended!
- with this album Ott create the perfect sound of that we will call Psybient, all the tunes are relaxing and has a beautiful melodies, but and the same time contains pure energy that make you wanNa dance all night long,
Ott is a truly genius and is capable of make magic!! for my this album is a masterpiece that everyone need to hear soon, maybe we need to make a law for the all children will have to listen this, in the school XD - Ott's second album begins with an ambient interlude saturated with ethnic sounds. But at about a third into a 12-minute track, the bass drops into a pleasant reggae-infused dub that always gets me bopping my head. But who is this Ott, with only one other previous solo release on Twisted Records? Why, he's the producer behind Hallucinogen's In Dub, of course. He also worked with Shpongle, The Orb and Brian Eno. With a huge list of collaborations and studio work, Ott is at the top when it comes to quality production. And Skylon is no exception. Dropping the above mentioned names should give you an idea of psychedelic ambient sound that dominates the album. And so my dry and nostalgic longing for psychill is instantly rejuvenated. Skylon prominently stands among my all time favorites by Simon Postford and Ron Rothfield (Raja Ram, 1200 Mics), downtempo tracks by Infected Mushroom, as well as earlier works by Shulman. And you too, without a doubt, will recognize the staple pitch-shifted vocal manipulation, time stretched flanged beats, and lead arpeggios fed through low-pass filters. All of the above works very well within the super dubbed out, delay-heavy, world-music-infused tracks. Definitely grab this for above mentioned names, as well as Younger Brother, Phutureprimitive, Tripswitch and Bluetech. Favorite tracks: The Queen Of All Everything, Roflcopter and an absolutely beautiful A Shower Of Sparks.
