Reviews
- not sure if the reviewer below is quoting ad copy. This just feels boomy and poorly recorded. It's like when contemporary artists use video but don't bother to learn how to expose it properly etc. These are sound recordings of actual things that are very badly recorded. I appreciate the witty(ish) titles and unusual locations, but it would be nice if an actual sound recordist did it. I might go out and see if there is a decent recording of an ant colony out there. Seems weird to embark on this project and not bother to improve your technical expertise or make sure your gear is up to the job.
- The first commercial CD to be presented in a 'KIDZbox' (something like a speak and spell merged with a lunchbox) is this intense trip into field noise from veteran musician Russell Haswell. For the project he has used a multitude of mic techniques to capture a series of never heard before soundscapes including; Jamican ant colonies, a wasp nest in Suffolk, Rocket Launchers, falling snow and most delightfully "A Horde of Flies Feast on A Rotting Pheasant Carcass". A mindblowing, visceral experience, like an electrocuted Chris Watson record.
