Reviews
- Review I wrote back in 2000 for my now RIP website www.punkupdates.com:
Hopeless Records has always been good for serving some heavier melodic punkrock. This is no exception to that. Although maybe this second release of Dillinger Four on the label is a bit poppier than other releases, but still the hardcore admiration of the band's members shines through. Unlike most of today's melodic punk bands D4's songs are loaded with political and social comments. Which made me like the record even more. Not that good lyrics are a must for me, but since lyrics are a need why not make them worthwhile from the start and not fill them up with a load of crap about your loved ones. Who gives a shit? It seems like these guys will never get airplay on MTV though, looking at the length of the song titles, but according to them, that never has been a goal. Extra points for them. So this all sounds good I see you think and ... you're fucking right. This is one of the best things I heard in a long time. Each song has good changes and the dual vocals (although not that clean) are a great addition to the driving music. Absolute highlights for me were songs 4, 5, 12 and especially 10 (Shiney Things Is Good), with a nice chorus (made my hands clap), and a thrilling ending.
Driving guitars, good lyrics, good vocals. PUNK in full capitals for me.
Best Song: Shiney Things is Good
BTW: even 23 years later, this is one of my fav punk albums ever!
