- First time listening to this rare blend in hip-hop area. Very experimental all the way thru mixing atmospheric background sounds in some on the tracks like “Sail”. Adding ambiental sounds like birds whistleling.
This juicy record got all the cream on it from trip-hop to hyperbeat and doomy strings arrangements like in track “Demonique” It gives you those gothic church memorial vibes.
Plus, the collaboration from the other artists invited brings over uplifting joy to all of “Aim” work. I totally recommend this gem. Glad to see that beautiful year in which it was born as well.
Record score: 95% - Sold around 30,000 copies.
- This has to be one if my favourite downtempo releases! Normally I don't like when the music gets to much hip hop related, but with this record everything just feel right! The highlights are <I>Cold Water Music</I> (of course), <I>Downstate</I>, <I>Demonique</I> (This track has some great choral vocals and sampling!), <I>Journey To The End Of Night</I> and <I>From Here To Fame</I>. Thanks, Aim!
- When I call an album a classic, I mean it -- and <i>Cold Water Music</i> is a <b>classic</b>. The beats are solid and funky and the samples fit so seamlessly with the song. "Demonique," for instance, takes vocal snippets from <i>Halloween</i> and makes the song truly creepy. Other tracks have a haunting beauty that's grounded by the beats: "Cold Water Music," "Downstate," and "A Tree, A Rock and a Cloud." And on "Sail," Kate Rogers' gorgeously melancholy vocals send chills down my spine.
