- when is a $300 record a $300 record? the answer is usually: when someone pays $300 for it. but in this case the answer is: this record is a $300 record because it sounds FRIGGIN' AMAZING. for real. the production is phenomenal. just so good. wow. and her voice? oof. out of this world. its the 80s album minnie riperton never got to make. at times sylvia reminds me of minnie and also of cory daye. both singers i adore. peace and blessings to Sylvia Striplin for giving the world this record.
best to all. Scott Seward - Perhaps a strange question, but was there an original promo copy released in 1981 with white labels? Thanks 😊
- Sylvia Striplin is NY based jazz, soul, and R&B singer who is also well known as a member of Ladies of the Eighties which is led byRoy Ayers. This is her only solo album which was released from Roy's label "Uno Melodic" in 1981 >>>>>> GREAT !
- General comment on the reissues and not the original release
ALL the reissues have the same faults on a couple of tracks. if you know your stuff you'll know what the tracks are and where. There are no master tapes of this album and I won't divulge why. So I guess a the latest reissue will sound much like the rest.
As someone mentioned earlier the 1st generation (90's) Japan reissues sound the best. I'll just expand on this by adding both the compact disc and vinyl were repressed by the original label in the USA before export to Japan during the 90's......Hence the 1st generation Japan reissues are legit 'Uno Melodic Records' pressings (and not just branded to appear so like the later reissues), but here's the kicker, it was not from master tapes.
Funny thing is the '80's Ladies' album was reissued at the same time with both vinyl and compact disc mastered from original tapes. Go figure!!!!
