Reviews
- If you're looking for Queen's worst sounding album (not musically, of course), Queen II is definitely it. They overindulged themselves with their overdubs to the point where the audio quality began to suffer, especially on side black. However, this is by far the best vinyl pressing I've ever heard of this album. Side Black rocks hard, far better than any UK pressing I've heard of this album which tends to be muddy and harsh in the upper end. Side White sounds better on some UK copies but this Side White is not much worse.
This album really suffers in the analogue medium, and the best way to listen to it (in my opinion) is the 1987 UK CD, which cuts out a lot of the inner groove distortion that is heard by Roger Taylor's feature on Side White and the end of "March of the Black Queen" to the end on side Black. What this album (and the first album) really needs is a digital remix, and maybe a super deluxe treatment.
