Reviews
This is the genres Nuyourican Soul LP, which is to say, it is stunning. I can hear some nice parallels between them.- It is "Parallel Universe pt 2" alright, but the most interesting thing about Jacob's Optical Stairway is their Detroit Techno approach to jungle/dnb breaks. I can feel Marc Mac particularly happy in here - those piano riffs - but the approaches from both feel more naturally interlined than in later 4 hero albums. The collaborations are spectacular but my favourite is their almost reggae deconstruction in "Harsh Realities" that grows into a space jungle tune. One of their better releases, on their own or together.
Yeah, agree with the man talking before. It is actually the Part 2 of Parallel Universe. Slowly blowing mind. High definition of jungle and intellectual dnb. Such a thing is impossible to produce now.
Desert island disc for sure. Genius music + graphics + track titles. Anyone know where they come from? Naphosisous Wars... Jacob's Optical Illusion and Stairway... Quatrain 72 seems to be something to do with Nostradamus... whatever, love the mystery.

How this still remains overlooked is astonishing. A beautiful deep and lush cosmic journey drawing across drum and bass and deep Detroit vibes. Highly recommended and up there with the best work of Dennis and Marc.
Edited one year agoA slower, more abstract and very progressive sounding LP, on the fringes of Jungle, this is a great sonic excursion. '20 Degrees Of Taurus' 'The Chase The Escape', 'The Naphosisous Wars' are just some of the delicious and memorable tracks found here. Over 25 years old now and showing how its hasnt aged at all.
Fusion formula is with Juan Atkins and the follow up fusion Part 2 - an absolute out there classic - appears on r43919 True People REACTLP71.

Tremendous album that really took drum and bass to Detroit. It's warm sounds could be compared to Model 500's Deep Space album.
