- For me, this is a "almost there" release.
First up is Agoria's Scala. Now if you are familiar with Agoria's work then this is nothing spectacular, but not to say that the song is not good. It's just that it is nothing that Agoria hasn't done before. The song has similar elements used in Les Violons Ivres. But the song is tidy, not too busy, and can get people moving, especially when the piano riff comes in. All-in-all, the methodology is simple, tidy, and just gets the job done, but you expect more when listening to an Innervisions release.
Kick the Peace (Part II) on the other hand, is another matter entirely. This song is worth the admission fee alone. Carefully constructed, deliberate build-up marks this song out as special. Its playful and inviting, yet at the same time slightly tougher than the experimental house that is currently circulating the scene. This song would not be out of place had it been release under the Secret Weapons compilations. It makes me wonder whether it would not have been better for the powers that be to simply mothball this release and release Kicking the Peace under the next instalment of Secret Weapons.
Kick the Peace makes this release worth the admission fee.
