- The version of SURFACE'S "Falling in Love" (1983) here is the same one on the CD "12" Gold master series vol. 1" and is a re-edit by the legendary Tom Moulton. It was created in 1993.
Here Tom extended the song by well over 3 minutes (the original Shep Pettibone vocal mix was 6:32) utilizing the vocal, instrumental, and another unidentified mix.
Tom ditches the pretty vocal/rhodes intro in favor of drums. (my guess to make it more DJ friendly--and no wonder--DAFT PUNK sampled this drum intro for their "Face to Face" in 2000), but I must admit I miss the pretty intro.
Straight away you can hear the intro is much longer as well, because Tom gives us quite a few bars of instrumental before the vocal comes in. He also gives us some nice extended instrumental sections later on, most likely pulled from Shep's original inst. mix.
What is most curious here though is how the first 4 bars of the flute solo were completely cut out, and the solo begins on the 5th bar. (I have to ask Tom about this)
All in all a good re-edit if you wanted a more dj friendly intro and a longer playing time.
