This landmark mix is around 25 years old now.
Obviously some of the sounds have dated but it still stands up and has that classic NY house sound with darker, dubby progressive touches. C&C really did know how to squeeze the most out of the tunes they plays. Overall, for me it sits somewhere between Graeme Park/MAW and John Digweed/X-Press 2. It is very vocal heavy but also has lot's of tougher, lose yourself in moments. I would loved to have seen this duo at the Ministry or another good UK club back in the day. In 1994 I was 16 and just got my first set of belt drive decks for Xmas and I would save up my pocket money from my part-time job and go and go record shopping. This mix was one of the first commercially available mix cds I ever heard and it blew me away with it's tune selection, programming, mixing, presentation and structure. The first tune O is played for it's 12 minute entirety, making a confident statement of we made this tune, we love it and want to share it with you. This taught me to be confident in my selections and patience in building a set.
Whilst track 3 is merely used as a bridge between 2 other tunes which opened my eyes to using only the first half or the 2nd half of a track if the effect was strong, also using bonus beat tools and dubs before you play the main hand raising version.
A solid, classic house mix that all house DJs old and new can learn something from. All these digital only DJs where the hard work is done for you and you can mix any track with any other track take note.
Learn from your fore fathers, R.I.P. David Cole, your life was brief but you gave us so much :-)

One of the best mix compilation CD's of the time, certainly the best from the MOS 'Sessions' series. The transitions still stand up to the strict digital standards of today's mix compilations, but still have that 'mixed live' feel.

Of course a mix CD is nothing without a quality track selection & build of sound, and this has both. This was an outstanding period in House Music, with many of the tracks used having a slightly deep/progressive edge to them. If I want something from this era to listen to, somewhere between Sasha & Graeme Park, this is what I go for.

This is a 10/10 package, an essential for any CD collection.
