Notes
Mastered in Zurich, Switzerland.
Cover designed in Baveno, Italy for ::Room40::.
In spring 2003 Steinbrüchel received an invitation from the music festival "Taktlos" in Berne, Switzerland, to create a track for their surround listening room. During the two days in November 2003 the track entitled "Opaque" was played back in cycle mode (among other tracks from various artists).
"Opaque" features as the first track on this CD. Each of the following tracks is based on the soundfiles used in the original piece. To make the reinterpretations more varied and unique, each contributing artist only received three soundfiles from the original piece, but none of them have heard "Opaque" before the completion of this release. Each contributing artist received a different set of soundfiles and has been asked to create a track with (or only from) the three soundfiles.
In addition each of the contributing artists has been asked for a specific approach while working on the reinterpretations: Chris Abrahms to combine the soundfiles only with piano, Ben Frost to add and work only with processed feedback, Taylor Deupree to create a track based on processed melody, Oren Ambarchi to work in combination with guitar and Toshiya Tsunoda to add and work only with fieldrecordings.
Steinbrüchel would especially like to thank Lawrence English of ::Room40:: for his faith and all the contributing artists for their wonderful reinterpretations. Thanks also to the Taktlos Festival in Berne for the possibility, to John Chantler for translation support and Katja + Max for ongoing support and love.
Released in an original fold-out 5-panel cross-type cardboard case.
