Does anyone know what year this was issued? CD players were not invented til 1984 so it couldn’t be before that.

Yes fans hate this release because it's doesn't remotely resemble the any of the prog-rock band's prior output, which you'd find on the same shelf of LPs as The Who and Led Zeppelin. This is a Trevor Horn production complete with J.J. Jeczalik's signature Art of Noise Fairlight programming. This release fits comfortably with Trevor Horn productions of the era: ZTT records, The Buggles, ABC's 'Lexicon Of Love', etc.

Trevor actually joined the band, did the 90125 tour, and was often/always booed by audiences. Despite that disaster, '90125' found a new audience, had at least two tracks pounded to death by top-40 radio ('Owner Of A Lonely Heart' and 'Leave It'), and sold obscene quantities.

Though it's not an electronic album, don't dismiss '90125'. Not only is it a curious crossover event in electronic music's history, it's a pretty good listen.
