Reviews
- Edited 11 years agoproof that the feverish eccentricity of guesch patti was in full swing although she fell quickly off the public radar after the release of this album. "gobe" isn't about hits (in fact, the only two songs that come remotely close to being catchy are the quirky "wake up" and the charming "melomane", both available in single formats), it's all about personality - the vocals are superbly produced, the music features arty electronic soundscapes, and the photo booklet beats grace jones and other luminaries at their own game. on top of all, prince's studio entourage had a hand in the mixing, instrumentation and production of the album. "heroine", in particular, boast an impressive array of reflective synth patterns that build-up in almost vangelis-like manner. however, the longer tracks on the album such as "copie" tend to flow by without making much impact due to their slow pace and the lack of strong melodies - reportedly, "gobe" was recorded in a rush to fulfill contractual obligations, and it sometimes shows. it's still an entertaining, disturbing listen for those who want to dig a bit deeper than just "etienne".
