Twarres - Wêr Bisto - 16-Jun-09 04:40 PM
Being the musical snob that I am, I have to state that this is a greatly under-appreciated track. This was a number one hit in the Netherlands some years ago, and Im always very sceptical of number one hits in that country. Most people there dont seem to have great musical taste; lets leave it at that. But a couple of years after it was in the charts, I started to really listen to the song and was very pleasantly surprised. The duos voices work very well together and while not even the Dutch dont understand a word of what Twarres sings, it really sounds very good. The musical composition is also nothing to sneer about. Highly recommended!

This album is great. No matter what reviewers around the web want you to believe, I myself absolutely love it. Standout tracks, for me, are Still Tired, Her Tune, Shittle and Blue Flower. That said, I really cant understand that Blue Flower is the track that gets the most bashing in several reviews. But then again, the reviewers are also just giving their opinions. And everyone is entitled to their own. Well, this is mine: a truly great record. Therefore, Im glad that Discogs users apparently can appreciate it.

Massive Attack - Protection - 01-May-03 06:37 AM
In my humble opinion this is the best album Massive Attack has made until now. Although Blue Lines, Mezzanine and 100th Window are extremely good too (No Protection is also excellent, by the way), this one is the top.

Really, I cant say this about any other cd I own (nor will I ever, I honestly believe), but I will about this one: this might well be the best album ever recorded. I know, in the review guidelines it says not to just state "Great record!", but I just did.

What I find a shame is that this album was Mushrooms child, whereas Blue Lines was Daddy Gs and both Mezzanine and 100th Window were (are) 3Ds. And guess what? Yes, Mushroom left the trio last year. So no more Protection. What struck me, also, was that on the gig I went to last sunday (in Amsterdam) they didnt even play one song from this album; only from the first and the last two. Maybe Mushroom wouldnt let them? Is there really so much hate between 3D and Mushroom, as Daddy G once said? That would really be a shame. I can only hope Mushroom will start making music of his own, just to see if he can pull another Protection.

(Hey, I can hope, cant I?!... :-)

Primal Scream - Screamadelica - 26-Apr-03 12:58 PM
Just bought this record last week, and its a 1992 release! Shame on me, I guess, since right now its late April, 2003. Oh well, you know what they say: better late than never. That particular saying is so very true for this record!

Ive bought the last three Primal Scream albums (Vanishing Point, XTRMNTR and Evil Heat), and found them all very, very good. Especially Vanishing Point, where I really like the diversity and the easy vibe that whole album has over it. Maybe then its not very surprising I find Screamadelica just plain and utterly brilliant?! Dare I say its the best Primal Scream album I own, now? Yes, I dare.

No, really. It has everything the later albums miss: a positive vibe. The latest three (yes, even Vanishing Point, at least to a certain extent) all sound quite negative and aggressive. Not that I dont like that (I love it!), its just that its not very mood-helping to play all three in a row. But suddenly, everything can and should be seen in another perspective.

Why is it that the Primals became so bitter? Why are they being chased by inner soul demons? I mean, why else do they make albums like XTRMNTR and Evil Heat? If you (as a musician or band) go from one end of the musical spectrum (Screamadelica) to the other (Evil Heat), then something must have happened along the way. Just what was it? Screamadelica is so peaceful; very pleasing to play at a very loud volume and totally immerse yourself in its warm mood and soundscape(s), whereas the latest two albums are too dense and negative to really immerse yourself in. (Oh, you can actually do it, its just that you get really, really fucked up when you do!)

I really like Bobbys voice, and would like to hear it more often in songs like Damaged, Im Coming Home and Shine Like Stars. On Vanishing Point, theyre there (those type of songs), but less so than on Screamadelica. I think its their best album. And very jazzy at some points, even. Lovin it! (And only bought it last week... :-)

Craig Armstrong - The Space Between Us - 23-Apr-03 04:42 PM
How can anyone in his or her right mind file this recording under house? Its more towards classical, if you ask me?! (Of course, classical is not an option thats available when uploading a recording, but still, house is definitely wrong.)

This album, by the way, is utterly brilliant. No wonder Massive Attack hired this guy to arrange the strings on their evenly brilliant Protection. Really, really good, this one.
