The tightest rhythm section in all of Polkaland. Their version of the Tin Pan Alley classic "Baggage Coach Ahead" will tear the roof off of any dance hall!

Decent Barber Shop Quartet LP featuring Barber-Shop Quartet themed comic artwork by Rube Goldberg. Chocolate Whiskey & Vanilla Gin is a highlight of the album
Dick Hyman And Derek Smith - Recorded Live In Concert At Van Wezel Hall

an excellent live album of piano playing as one can expect from Dick Hyman. The only thing holding this album back is the weak production values, but still worth picking up for any fans of Hyman or piano music.

Typical Swiss/German polka record, featuring some nice brass orchestra arrangements and spirited yodeling from der Jodelhans.
Danny Davis & The Nashville Brass - Texas

Innocuous milquetoast instrumental background music. Nashville session musicians jumping on the Herb Alpert mule train.
Various - Dixieland

Good raw dixieland with some pretty hot recordings. The trombone on St. James Infirmary is SICK

Schmaltzy instrumental lounge music with WAY too much saxophone. Nice electric guitar leads and occasionally jams out. Killer version of the Beer Barrel Polka of all things

Solid instrumental rock & roll record. Fans of The Ventures should get this.
Boxcar Willie - Daddy Was A Railroad Man

Some good old fashioned country tunes with modern 1970's production values. His voice is reminiscent of Shotgun Willie on the best tune - "I Love The Sound Of A Whistle".
Eddie Miller (2), Eddie Miller And His Blue Notes - Frat Hop
posted a review of Eddie Miller (2), Eddie Miller And His Blue Notes - Frat Hop. over 4 years ago
It's a good instrumental jump blues / rock & roll craze record played by jazz session musicians. Definitely worth picking up.
Rusty Draper - Sing-A-Long With Rusty

Better than average children's cowboy record, featuring some hardcore tunes about death and destruction.
Dexys Midnight Runners - Geno

the band is really great! But the singer.... Yikes! He really brings them down a peg, especially on the track One Way Love, which is unlistenable.

limp acoustic drivel. A few songs are catchy, but mostly boring and forgettable.

Definitely falls within the "so bad, it's good" category. Intensely cringe-inducing Beastie Boys cover songs with a Wisconsin / Packers / Alcoholism / Date Rape theme.
Le Tigre - Le Tigre

At first I thought this band was just a second rate Bis clone, but then this record gets a lot more interesting. This is a really good record, though a couple of the tracks can get rather shrill and irritating.

The first song is bad ass. Second song is a bizarre Wizard Of Oz themed mess. Last song is awesome. Good stuff

If you've ever seen 2001: A Space Odyssey, when HAL 9000 dies and starts to sing "Daisy" it's a reference to the song recorded on this record.
Peter Tosh - Glass House

Glass House is a decent Peter Tosh song. The dub version on side B is forgettable. OK for a buck or two. Pressed on some of the worst vinyl I have ever seen!
Jan & Dean - The Little Old Lady From Pasadena

This album is all over the place... honestly it's more of a children's novelty record than a legit surf album. You can expect plenty of wholesome & inoffensive music that even grandma can enjoy!
Billy May And His Orchestra - Sorta-Dixie!
posted a review of Billy May And His Orchestra - Sorta-Dixie!. over 8 years ago
This record tries to make a musical joke about a SUPER LOUD orchestra constantly INTERRUPTING a Dixieland Jazz band. While there are a few stand out moments, all in all the joke gets old and this record is a chore to listen too. It's TOO PIERCING! ... See full review

Various - Smoky Mountain Ballads

This is a very nice little collection of old Hillbilly folk tunes. Sounds like they are just recordings of old 78's, but sound quality is as good as can be expected. Worth picking up for a good price!
