José Pisa

José Pisa was born in Gironde in 1953 to a family of Andalusian gypsies. At the age of nine, while his family lives in Buenos Aires, he starts playing the guitar. His musical arrangements lead his father to entrust him to the flamenco guitarist Pepe Monreal. At the age of eleven he gave his first recital at the Avenida Theater in Buenos Aires. At twelve, in New York, he is a student of Sabicas. At the age of thirteen he returned to France with his parents. Then his father sends him to Spain, where he plays mainly in Madrid with Serranito, El Nani and Paco de Lucía, of whom he becomes an intimate friend and whom he will meet several times in his life.He starts composing at fourteen. He won first prize at the Conservatoire de Paris at the age of seventeen, then toured Japan the following year, followed by a European tour (Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Germany).
