Myles Goodwyn, a pivotal figure in Canadian rock music, was best known as the frontman and principal force behind the renowned hard rock band April Wine. His career, spanning over 40 years, was marked by his significant contributions to the music industry, particularly in Canada. Even after retiring from touring with April Wine in the year preceding his death, Goodwyn remained actively involved in the music scene through his solo endeavors and as a vital part of April Wine's management, songwriting, and production team.
Under Goodwyn's leadership, April Wine achieved substantial success, with over 10 million records sold worldwide. The band's notable achievements include their induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2010 and the Canadian Walk of Fame in 2023, underscoring their substantial impact on rock music. Goodwyn himself was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, highlighting his exceptional talent and influence as a songwriter.
Goodwyn faced several health challenges throughout his life, including a well-known battle with diabetes and a life-threatening experience in 2008 due to internal bleeding associated with alcohol abuse. He authored a best-selling autobiography in Canada titled "Just Between You and Me," and published a novel named "Elvis and Tiger."
