Manuel Oscar Matus known as Oscar Matus, is a musical composer and guitarist of Argentine folk music from the province of Mendoza. At the beginning of the 1960s he was one of the founders of the Nuevo Cancionero movement, along with his wife Mercedes Sosa, Armando Tejada Gómez and Tito Francia. He was married between 1957 and 1965 with Mercedes Sosa with whom he had a son, Fabián Matus. He is also the father of Ada Matus and formed a duo with her.
Independently produced the first album of Mercedes Sosa and the first albums of this singer include many of his songs.
He collaborated with the poet Armando Tejada Gómez with whom he composed numerous songs, such as Selva sola, El Río y Tú, El viento duende, La Pancha Alfaro, La Zafrera, La zamba del riego, Los hombres del río, Nocturna, Zamba de los humildes, Tropero padre, Zamba de la distancia, etc.
