Isabel Cowan
Profile: | New Zealand soprano singer of Maori songs in the 1950's and 1960s. Daughter of James Tipuna Whatarau and his wife "Polly" Pareawa (née Otene). She sang with Howard Morrison in the Clive Trio in 1954, with the Maori Concert Party, touring Australia in 1956, and married guitarist Peter Cowan in 1957. In 1965 she sang with the New Zealand Opera Company and Inia Te Wiata in "Porgy and Bess". |
