Gilbert Steurbaut was born 03/03/1941 in Bottelare, Belgium and died 11/01/2016 in Laarne.

He started Studio Steurbaut in 1967 in a room at home, located in the Koning Albertlaan, Gent, Belgium. In 1975, he bought a factory building at the Antwerpsesteenweg, Sint-Amandsberg. There Gilbert Steurbaut installed a huge recording studio, even able to record symphonic orchestras. He used the natural acoustics of the building, for which he was well known and appreciated.

Steurbaut recorded for many record labels such as: EMI, Erato, Decca, Philips and René Gailly International Productions. He was also much appreciated for his recordings on location in various historical buildings. For years, Gilbert did the recordings for the International Queen Elisabeth Competition.
