Notes

The Very Polish Cut-Outs have once again sought forgotten and somewhat obscure artists whose music needs reviving. This time they chose the duo MODFUNK, which operated on the Polish electronic music scene from 1999 to 2009. Piotr Jarecki and Martin Tigermaan, two Warsaw natives, shared a love for the "French touch" genre, dominant on dance floors worldwide at that time, featuring artists like Daft Punk, Cassius, Stardust, and Bob Sinclar. They were the brains behind this project.

Modfunk's debut album, "Superfuzja," drew heavily from the work of French artists. After its release, the duo performed at several festivals, including Open'er in Gdynia, Selector in Krakow, and Moonride in Slovakia. In addition, they created remixes for renowned vocalists, such as Monika Brodka and Reni Jusis.

Their second album, "Emofunk," released in 2008, was a tribute to the raw and aggressive style of electro, characteristic of the new wave of French sound represented by artists like Justice, SebastiAn, and Mr. Oizo. Modfunk also established contact with French idols, which led to Philippe Zdar from the group Cassius participating in the recording of their album and singing on the track "Showtime." Modfunk's last performance as a group was at the Open'er festival in 2009, after which they each went their separate ways. However, they left behind an impressive musical legacy and a unique sound for that time in Poland, which can be aptly called "The Very Polish French Touch."

A compilation titled "A Journey Through Sound (Selected Recordings 1999-2009)" marks Modfunk's debut on vinyl and will be available in two versions: traditional black and an exclusive, limited version with a splash of color. Bartosz Szymkiewicz created the beautiful cover. The edition is limited. The vinyl was released in a run of 500 copies, with a splatter version (200 copies) and a black version (300 copies).

Zambon, the boss of TVPCO, is responsible for the compilation "A Journey Through Sound (Selected Recordings 1999-2009)." It consists of a subjective and cross-sectional selection of the ten best tracks from Modfunk's entire discography. Despite the evolution of their music over the years, they never abandoned their French-inspired sound, which is why the compilation includes tracks like "Souler" and "The Wav," which draw inspiration from Daft Punk. There's also a track, "Love," sung in Polish, referencing Romanthony's work, as well as "Texmex" and "Wishes," two electropop tracks that could have been released by Ed Banger Records.
