- AELIAN - THE WATCHER (FGBG 4061.AR) CD 47m
Just to prove that not all current Italian bands have unintelligible vocalists Aelian have a very fine Jon Anderson-like singer with a clear voice, and he gets most of his pronunciation right! Of course there are many excellent Italian vocalists with a good command of English, but being French the guys at Musea obviously don't realise how off putting some of their releases (i.e. by Fancyfluid, Notturno Concertante, etc.) can sound to English ears. Aelian have a big symphonic and heavy rock sound, they often remind of 80's Eloy or early Twelfth Night, and instrumentally there's also hints of Steve Hackett. A bit more variety in the arrangements and better drums wouldn't go amiss, yet overall THE WATCHER is a promising debut.
From my Musea reviews feature in Audion magazine #24 (Feb. 1993)
