Wow. Listening to this now for the first time. I'd never heard of Stetch until a few days ago when he made a cameo as a client of a master piano technician featured in a terrific book called "Grand Obsession." I looked Stetch up so I could hear the technician's (Marc Wienert) handiwork. The handiwork is great (phat, crunchy, smoky Steinway, per Stetch's preference), but what a pleasant surprise to find that so is Stetch's playing on this and other albums I'm also discovering online. Ukrainianism is very original, engaging and accessible solo piano work in a melodic, percussive, exploratory post-jazz kind of style.
