This is the version to GET! A long (7m27sec) hard beat industrial percussion and synth lines tune that makes you move like no tomorrow.Totally different from the watered-down version included in "Machine Age Voodoo". The B-Side is also excellent. If only they had made more in this... A Classic! referencing Metal Dance (7", 45 RPM) WANT 1
Extremely influential gift to electronica is "Metal Dance". The B-side, "Will to Power" is just as great. The seven inch (and the 12 inch) I own shows the Desire Records "snake" logo on the vinyl centres, but a black generic sleeve with the distributor's logo, I.D.S. I'm sure the UK single release was the picture sleeve. Additionally, the centres credit the tracks to Revell/Leong/Thompson and production SPK/Mike Johnson.
The seven inch version of Metal Dance is the superior version.

Ok, I always stood very far away from this (in)famous single until today. Of course, any fan of the "true" SPK hates their commercial transformation, that occured exactly starting from this 12". Yet, I have to say, these two tunes are great! The combination of metal percussion and typical synth-pop sounds works very well here, and it's not at all as poppy as in "Machine Age Voodoo". If that embarassing album had sounded anything like the "Metal Dance" 12", it would have been a true revolutionary crossover between industrial and pop, much before Nine Inch Nails, to name one. Unfortunately, it didn't happen, and even the album version of "Metal Dance" has nothing to do with the superb side A of this vinyl. Unbiased listeners of 80's electronics, don't let SPK's hardcore fans fool you, this single is a forgotten classic.
