- This is a beautiful album by Chicago and this Europian/Holland pressing sounds great. The sound is analog warm and crispy.
- I just found this at an estate sale and got it not because it was only like $5... it is in --pristine-- condition. This album looks like it was bought in 1969 and played once. Even the sleeve looks brand new. I had a double-take when I saw what album it actually was, I thought it was a recent release of something with a black cover. Only the issues of INNER SLEEVE (YES!!!!!) inside are a bit browned.
- This is one of my desert island records. I have 2 copies, one of which is in pretty bad shape, but the good one still sounds great and I'll pass it on to the next generation.

I've owned the original and almost forgot about it, since the sound was terrible. I heard "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is" on the radio one day and got to thinking how great the songs were but wanted a better production. I definitely got it with this beautiful red vinyl and heavy stock jacket. Very well done and sounds fantastic. May be slightly bass heavy but not a big deal. Simply eq it down a notch and done. The horns are excellent especially coming out of my Heresy 1's. I've owned this about 2 weeks now and listened to the complete album 4 times through and it is a tremendous mix. Very pleased and it's definitely a must have for old Chicago Transit Authority fans. Oh and happy 79th birthday to Peter Cetera today! referencing Chicago Transit Authority (50th Anniversary Remix) (CD, Album, Reissue, Stereo) RR2 76171
I was really excited about getting this because I had gotten several remixes in the last few years that sounded fantastic. This sounds fantastic, but in the wrong way: a very bad fantasy.
The sound quality is absolute garbage. On top of that, there's noticeable flutter and wow all over the place -- and THIS IS A CD I'm talking about!
When all the uproar about the terrible sound first happened, Rhino said, "Oops, we used the vinyl master on the CD instead of the digital master." Of course, those who had the vinyl called BS on that because the vinyl version sounds just as bad, but Rhino offered "corrected" CDs. So I requested a corrected CD. I got the supposedly corrected CD in the mail several weeks later (this was during the COVID lockdowns so I expected it to take a while anyway). The CD looked 100% identical to the one I had; no indication whatsoever as to which was which. I played it: exact same sound problem. I loaded the audio into Audacity and saw that the only difference was that the "fixed" CD started a half-second or so later.
And to definitely prove that the "fixed" CD was no different, I loaded various songs from the "fixed" CD into Audacity into one stereo track, and the same songs from the unfixed CD into another stereo track. I then inverted the phase on ONE of the tracks. Now, if you don't know about phase inversion, it basically takes the wave form and turns it upside-down. If you take one sound, then another copy of the same sound but invert the phase, then play them together, any sounds the two have in common will cancel out, and what you get left is what they do NOT have in common. Now...when I combined the CTA tracks -- the "unfixed" and "fixed" versions -- I got DEAD SILENCE, meaning the "fixed" and unfixed CDs were EXACTLY THE SAME.
So yeah. DO NOT GET THIS REMIX.- Jimi Hendrix said that Terry Kath was a legend! This album shows why! A legend taken from us in his prime...

This 2002 Rhino CD sounds awesome. The sound seems like direct from the master tapes. Not a huge fan of CD sound but this one is a great one to grab for el cheapo! Nice slipcase packaging too.
