- Edited one year agoNot a fan of Yoko, but Bill Laswell's funky production makes this one enjoyable for me...Wish there were an inst. mix of the album as well.
Hard to believe ANYONE would disparage any record where Sly & Robbie are the rhythm section. Really folks? Get with it. - Not the Yoko album I reach for. On paper Starpeace has everything going for it but is ruined by a truly unfortunate Bill Laswell production. Awful power chords, really bad and totally unnecessary back up vocals, overwrought Syn drums, etc. It’s a bummer because Ono’s previous self produced album was one of her very best.
- I don't love all YO albums evenly. The driving disco/post disco background rhythms on StarPeace and what I've heard on other 1980-vintage Ono songs often ruins it for me in the majority of songs. I do like musical experiments and I do appreciate the words/themes/concepts but to me the music rarely does it justice or pull together the songs to make the 80s songs good (for me). I like best the last 5 songs the best on StarPeace: You and I, It's Gonna Rain, StarPeace, I Love you Earth, and Yoko's interpretation of Imagine.
