The Kinks – Give The People What They Want

GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT has grown on me considerably over the years, and is now my favorite of the Kinks' Arista era albums. Ray Davies has always had a knack for character sketches, but rarely were they as darkly written as "Killer's Eyes", "Yo Yo" and "Art Lover". "Destroyer" deserved to be a much bigger hit than it was, "Add It Up" speeds by at an impressively breakneck pace, and "Better Things" is quite simply one of Ray Davies' finest songs, and ends one of the band's most cynical albums on a bright and optimistic tone. This pressing sounds good, with adequate low end, crunchy guitars, and a punchy, in-your-face mix. My copy plays nice and clean with occasional faint surface noise.

Destroyer is such an awesome song. This album brings the best of the Kinks arena rock-era.

probably the kinks finest album after preservation society, full of spiky charm and only a few filler tracks

Destroyer misprinted as "Detroyer" on my copy. Nice record though.

This is one of my favorite Kinks albums. so many great songs and good production.
