The Who – Who Are You

After buying this and then (for the first time) finding out I already have the UK pressing https://www.discogs.com/release/475992-The-Who-Who-Are-You in my collection already I did an experiment. Since vinyl is expensive and I do not want to hold 2 copies of any lp because I find it pointless, I wanted to see which sounded better on the last title track, side 2 of each.
The UK pressing had IGD and was ever-so-slightly muddy whilst this German copy was far more superior and crisper with no any IGD at all. Altogether, a different pressing compared to the UK version and much better imho.

This is the one with the rear cover printing error...the track Sister Disco is omitted with the printed song titles on the rear cover. This printing error was corrected with the reissue bearing different manufacturing credits and different price code.

Just picked this up at a flea market in VG+ for $5, sounds about the same as my US first pressing but still very cool to have.

John Entwistle is not lead vocals on Had Enough. Got a factory sealed copy OP for Christmas. Brings back great memories.

This edition has the title track, but it has them saying hell instead of the f word.

A later but still 'vintage' pressing from the UK. I like the Polydor label and large font. My copy plays very quiet. Sounds pretty good to me. Lead vocals a bit on the strident side, no surprise really, so they are featured in the sound. Wide stereo. Decent bass. Good if you can get one cheap.

For me, this album is on the weaker side of their catalog. I actually prefer the Moon-less 1981 Face Dances and Pete's early 80s solo albums to this album. The gem of the album IMO is 905. I had no idea that was an Entwistle tune.

My copy is a Pinckneyville press with trail off MCA-1511-SS4 Pinckneyville Logo Biggles Side 2 - MCA 1512 WQ (or W-2?) Pinckneyville logo LB

My version is the Pic Disc Inc. format - a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nashville's Fitzgerald-Hartley management company, owned by Mark Hartley and Larry Fitzgerald. They specialized in pressing picture discs from the late 1970s through the early 1990s. They were exclusive assignees of the patent by which picture discs were made. The Pic Disc picture-disc Lp and 45, as well as the Trick Disc shaped picture disc were found on issues from bands as diverse as Paul McCartney and Iron Maiden.
