If dub/ambient interests you in the very least - add melody "dense hypnotic rhythms" and an exotic theme with a sense of space and pop, then check out Miguel Angelo Fierro's latest effort. One of my favorite albums to date, this all instrumental knockout not only transmits liberation and divinity, it sends you to a better place and will keep you coming back for more.- Edited 17 years ago

Single Cell Orchestra's eponymous 1996 release is a rush of adrenaline. There aren't that many albums that cram so many well executed tracks, one after another, all the way to the end. Yes, you will be reminded of Young American Primitive on the opener, the uptempo anthemic "A Better Place". Miguel Fierro gets a groovy, swirling middle eastern vibe perfectly on "Letters From Nowhere", which predates The Black Dog's brilliant "Remote Viewing" by ten years. Following that one comes the most memorable "Knockout Drops" which is one of the few electronica tracks that will have you humming it on the street long after listening to it. All in all, it's an album of great beauty and complexity that I have lazily been waiting for someone else to write about for years.
