- In fact there was about a five year gap between the height of the Jungle craze and 138 Trek. As Drum & Bass emerged from the Jungle scene the breaks had settled into less complicated breakbeat loops rather than the crazy patterns found in Jungle.
DJ Zinc had produced a series of very successful Drum & Bass tracks through the second half of the 90's. On his Beats by Design EP he attempted to produce a lower tempo Drum & Bass track with the result being '138 Trek'. While it is a Breaks track it proved to be hugely popular with the UK Garage scene. As a result it was given this single release. - Zinc's _138 Trek_ was released during the waning days of the jungle craze. So instead of frenetic drums all over the place, it opts for more straightforward breaks. The "Radio Edit" includes some questionable nattering from an M. C. -- a holdover from the jungle days -- but the "Original Mix" foregoes the vocals in favor of more bass. Zed Bias adds some syncopation to the bassline, helping to enliven the track as a whole.
