- Edited 6 years agoMost of this scans as "fusion" in the bad sense of the term, i.e., disparate parts combined but not organically integrated—influences for influences' sake. Indeed, it's a risky gambit to fuse a genre like future jazz—that, when done well, is known for its lithe, nimble, effortless groove—with rhythmically breathless, oft-overdriven drum and bass (breaks without the grace) and ham-fisted rock signifiers, and I'm afraid the requisite dexterity is not evinced here. With that said, "Instant Zen" is a fantastic track; there's a reason it was selected for Nite:Life 07.
- Edited 14 years agoI don't agree with scoundrel, for my opinion this is a brilliant album, a unique album I must say!!!
The sound of Felka has something that you will never have heard before in another album.Rock-fusion meets future jazz with a lot of ambient elements. This is superb electronica!!
Their first born entitled "stromlinienbaby" (meaning "stream-line-baby") is a unique mixture between future electronic and drum & bass. The recording was made using modern electronic equipment as well as the "hand-made" sounds and music of guitars, bass, drums and sax. - A not-entirely-successful fusion of free jazz, drum 'n' bass, and rock-n-roll electric guitar. Unfortunately, the elements don't integrate well, which results of a musical hodgepodge that never quite comes together. There's an odd ambient track, "Q-Brick," stuck right in the middle of the album too. Strange. Still, an admirable effort with some good grooves.
