Reviews
- LAURENT PERNICE weaves distinctive dance tracks with at least one foot in mild Techno with location recordings. Simple, straight-down-the-line music which falls somewhere between mainstream Club music and Chill Room ROBERT MILES-type easy listening. This may be seen as a decompression tank stepping stone between both levels, and yet it is neither, creating it's own eccentric niche and failing to fall whole-heartedly into any one genre. Between these rhythmic tracks it delves into realms previously explored by such people as TANGERINE DREAM - sequential meanderings, Ambient soundscapes, gentle driftworks. And he can delve into darker, more suggestive realms without appearing to have left anything behind.
But what he does, he does brilliantly. Perhaps this is too lightweight for a lot of tastes, but he fills his rhythms with understated but distinct tunes. This is a very deliberately uneven journey which is well worth taking. Perhaps too independent and eclectic for many peoples taste, he refuses to dwell to long in any specific area, yet never ventures so far as to alienate.
Sparse but hooky electronic music in this mature, colourful journey through an intriguing rhythm-world.
