Reviews
- This shouldn't be labeled Freestyle. Just because one of the tracks is named Freestyle Mix doesn't mean its that kind of music.
- "The Blue Light Of The Underwater Sun" is actually a rework of the track "Ul He Fu" which had been Moby's contribution to the "Mayday - The Judgement Day" compilation.
It starts out as a highly cheesy ambient tune with spoken vocals by Moby in which he tells you to imagine being a dolphin in the sea. After the dolphin in the story is suddenly captured in a fishnet and gets into a panic, a kickdrum and distorted synths start banging around your head, with occasional samples that sound like a dolphin's sqeak. In the end, the hardcore techno section of the song breaks down into an electric guitar solo with a lot of feedback, probably to illustrate the animal's death at the end of his fight for survival.
The whole song concept might seem a bit corny, but it is rather well executed. To me, this is one of Moby's best B-sides because it manages to contain the diversity of musical styles he was engaged in during the mid-90s in just four and a half minutes and turn them into a consistent musical piece.
