MBM is an amazing band and Jack Dangers is without a shadow of a doubt one of the most talented artists in the industry, and all of that is evident in this album. Now while his music may not be for everyone, several things must be pointed out about this particular release. Prime Audio Soup came out in 1998 when the electric music industry had switched from analog to digital format and sequencing to produce music. It definitely shows. In the song 'Book of shadows' there is a sample of an individual saying "New machines, new methods, new products, ..." . Now unless one actually asks mister Dangers what the significance of this is, we may never know. But at least in my own interpretation, that is what it means. And if you compare the audio quality of this album to his prior (Subliminal Sand which) which was excellent in its own right, this sounds as if there are more modern tools at work.
Another aspect to discuss is that this definitely is geared towards psychedelics, LSD in particular. The lyrics in the songs, the samples in the songs, the effects in the songs and the way how they are processed. And if it has to be spelled out, the song "Acid Again". Not that it's a bad thing, this album is great to listen to if you have taken some of that stuff, or so I have been told.
In my personal opinion, this is MBM greatest work. I know that artists can't keep churning out the same material over and over again and their sound evolves with the times. It's just a little disheartening that the material that he's releasing now barely holds a candle to this. But I've been a fan of MBM since 1995 and always look forward to when he releases another album.
