I don't understand the 2/5 rating on this pressing. It sounds killer and is mastered very well. Deep grooves, very resilient to scratches. If you find an affordable copy, it's a steal.
Placebo (2) - Placebo 1973

A fine album for the time, well arranged. A goldmine of samples and a lot of it is perfect soundtrack music. As an album of music, it feels pretty sterile. The funk is there, but it feels like a 70s go at The Meters with an updated, more electronic... See full review

Exceptional pressing. I've owner four other pressings, two original and two different 1974 represses and this one wins by a laughable margin. It's the pressing that this album deserved: ultra hot, clear, crisp, and yet so smooth and full-bodied.... See full review

The album is good, pretty average UNTIL it gets to "Come To Jesus Now". Amazing slow number and just overall an absolute stunner. Amazing female lead vocal performances.

A relatively average gospel set, quite old-fashioned. However, "God Will Take Care Of You" is an incredible track. The atmosphere and the feel of it is totally worth seeking out the record for a reasonable price.

The album is a bit dated for 1973, but it's really great classic stuff. Performances and arrangements are quite stunning, as expected with The Holy Lights.

The whole record is straight fire. Really worth seeking out. Soul jazz/modern soul with no filler.

An AWESOME private press gospel set. Not just an inflated private press rarity, but actually a quality record throughout.

How does one know if this version is a promo? Is there a stamp or any indication? The picture in this release has a normal looking label

This record is perfection. Side A in particular. It's rare that a gospel soul record has a lot of great downtempo material, but here the slow stuff is truly triumphant.

Out of the non-Van Gelder pressings, this is one of Blue Note’s best. The fidelity and definition is amazing. The mastering is very similar in character to RVG, and having owned both, the original mono and this, I can attest that it’s very worth a... See full review

This is a great alternative to the original US pressing. I was not impressed with the original US press – it had some typical mid-60s prestige noise floor and dullness issues that echoes the low vinyl quality of many Status pressings. This pressing is... See full review

One of the hottest RVG cuts ever. This record is SO loud and blown out in a pretty creative way. Super cool. Dense, cerebral, really hard free jazz/modal stuff.

A slow starter – great opener, but then 4 or 5 rather middle-of-the-road, generic, typical Savoy cuts. However, side B goes very deep on a couple occasions with "I'll Do Anything For You" and especially "Little Boy". An amazing track to close out the... See full review

4 or 5 tracks of absolute fire with weaker, more generic tracks scattered in between. "Somebody Needs You Lord", "I'm A Witness", "God Gave Us All He Had", "He'll Be There", and "Togetherness" are real standouts. Some absolutely killer material on this record. See full review

It's an INCREDIBLE fusion record. In a similar vein to Miles' definitive fusion efforts. Come quite a few years after In A Silent Way and Bitches Brew, so it's not that groundbreaking, but everything about this record is ultra successful. ECM pressing... See full review

I wonder if the cover is meant as a tribute to Roger Dean's artwork on Budgie's "Squawk", but suggesting the anti-war, political sentiments expressed on "Weep In Silence".

This album, while pretty frontloaded (side A is just monumental), is still pretty amazing. I Just Want To Be Loved and Don't Take My Sunshine deliver some of the strongest content in soul.

Totally agreed. I find that the documentation here enhances the performance. It's really raw in a great way. Regardless of whether it was intentional or not, it definitely works and makes the record feel fragile and precious. This LP is a gem.

You probably have the Keel pressing. It should have a serrated edge. New York labels, stereo, van gelder stamp, but no ear. There should be a very faint crooked K etched on side 1 too, but that's not always the case. :)
