Notes
The second Sisters of Mercy album, released November 1987. It reached #7 on the UK album charts, and three hit singles were released from it: This Corrosion (September 1987, #7 on UK chart); Dominion (February 1988, #13); and Lucretia My Reflection (June 1988, #20).
The band lineup on 'Floodland' was nominally Andrew Eldritch and Patricia Morrison. The songs were written by Eldritch alone, and Morrison is not credited on the sleeve artwork, except in the 'thank you' list (under her real name, [Patricia] Anne Rainone). Morrison's musical contribution has been disputed, but she was vital to the band's image during this period.
The album differs in its vinyl and CD versions. The CD features the full-length mixes of 'This Corrosion' (10:55) and 'Driven Like The Snow' (6:27). On the vinyl version, 'This Corrosion' fades out at 9:16, and 'Driven Like The Snow' is a different mix, lasting 4:39. Many CD versions add 'Torch' and 'Colours' (B-sides from the 'This Corrosion' single) as bonus tracks. (On cassette, 'Torch' alone is added, at the end of side one.) According to Eldritch, these were 'supposed to be removed after the first pressing', and 'don't belong to the album'.

- Loving this cut. Its still avail on mofi for a bargain price, it youre a fan if this record I highly recommend picking one up at retail.
- Edited 3 months agoNot very pleased with this version of the album. Sound quality differs from track to track, e.g. Dominion and others suffers from light sibiliance while Flood I or Never Land sound fantastic. Pressing quality has room for improvement as well: Occasional surface noise even after professional cleaning and the disc is not perfectly centered. Furthermore, I do not understand why MFSL is not able to add the OIS or at least the lyrics insert as initially included.
If you're looking for the best possible audio quality of this fantastic album, try to get the Japanese version. It sounds significantly better than the EU and German first press and so much better than this release.
(Playgraded with an Ortofon 2M Black) referencing Floodland (CD, Album, Reissue, WME) 2292-42246-2
I wonder why people insert "Europe" as country of manufacture if the CD of this issue clearly says "Made in Germany".- I wanted to try a MOFI pressing... This one seems a good pressing to me even if it is far from prefect.
Some surface noise on my copy but nothing dramatic although some non-MOFI pressings of my own have less surface noise than this one...
The sound of the first track Dominion/Mother Russia did not make me fall of my chair. But the following tracks are punchy and the drums sound is astounding !
No particular problem on the track "This Corrosion" for me.
A great pressing overall, event if I expected better from what I had read about MOFI. However, the price is lower compared to other MOFI pressings, this perhaps explains it... - Edited 6 months agoI have copy #9966 and sounds fantastic. I don't hear any noise/pops during Corrosion as mentioned by mhrobbins25 in their review and have a higher number copy.
- Edited 6 months agoFor those who were wondering how high the number of pressings has gotten for this particular release:
The foil number on my jacket is 09542.
It matches the runouts that have been provided for this listing & it sounds phenomenal.
My wired/analog setup:
• Audio Technica LP-140XP
• Audio Technica VM-740ML (w/ gold cart)
• ART DJ Pre II Phono Preamplifier
• Sony DH190 Hi-Res Stereo Receiver
