Reviews
- ASOT 2004 is a canonical trance compilation these days, and for good reason. Shortly after his 00 series, AvB started a mix compilation based on his radio show of the same name, and the rest is history. ASOT2005 is definitely one of the strongest in the series, and perhaps the last to have "old school" trance featured, with Airwave, Three Drives, OceanLab and Super8 cuts that are reminiscent of early 00s trance. Disc 1 is my favourite of the two, lovely mix of progressive and vocal trance. Disc 2 is faster and has some absolutely incredible tracks (like Flying and Mind Circles), making this a fantastic slice of trance history. 5/5
Top tracks:
Active Sight – The Search For Freedom
Valentino – Flying (Sultan & The Greek Remix)
Kyau Vs. Albert – Velvet Morning (Aalto Remix)
OceanLab – Satellite (Original Above & Beyond Remix)
Fictivision Vs. Phynn – Escape (Phynn Mix) - Edited 19 years agoVery mixed feelings about this album.
On one hand, these are all very quality melodic trance tunes, and superbly mixed.
On the other hand, this is not the Armin from Boundaries of Imagination or other older stuff. It's not that the album sounds commercial... I feel like Armin never really takes the mix off, which is kind of his style not to bang it out, but sometimes it feels a little draggy.
Don't get me wrong--great trance mix for you to have, especially the opening to CD 2. Great songs, and a great DJ. But the energy feels a little like a lost potential. Just a little.
