Reviews
- The release notes say this was a May 1989 concert but this date is almost certainly incorrect. Heart was touring the Bad Animals album extensively in 1987 into 1988, and the performance itself, down to the band introductions and live vocal anomalies, exactly match an "unofficial release" that has been out there forever, under titles like "Throb" and "Live in Portland 1987". Notes for those releases put this as a performance on August 30th, 1987 recorded for FM broadcast.
Some EQ was applied and it does sound marginally better than other sources I have heard, but it isn't night-and-day different and the track list is exactly the same except for the extraction of band introductions as a separate track. Recommended if you don't already have this performance. - I'm was thinking this is an unofficial release, then I saw the description on the release, yup.
So this release is Heart live on their Bad Animals tour starting spring 1988,a 75 minute live performance on the 12th of March 1989 in Portland, Oregon USA, recorded for broadcast on syndicated radio, this was Heart at their commercial peak.
I was fortunate enough to be in the audience of February '88 when Ann & Nancy Wilson, along with Howard Leese on guitars, keyboards, background vocals,Mark Andes on bass guitars and Denny Carmassi on drums,my favourite line up, played the Edinburgh Playhouse, I've still got my A2 sized programme with the ticket stub jammed in the inside spine,it was my first live gig.
The track listing brings back memories of hearing Ann's powerful vocals ricochet around the intimate settings of the Playhouse, I had such a crush on Nancy, with her beautiful elfin looks and golden curls she belonged in a enchanted forest strumming her guitar like a Wood nymph teasing me with her vocals.
