Notes
Déjà Vu is the first album by the rock band Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and the second by the trio configuration of Crosby, Stills, and Nash. It was released in March of 1970 by Atlantic Records, catalogue SD-7200. It topped the pop album chart for one week and generated three Top 40 singles: "Teach Your Children," "Our House," and "Woodstock."
Déjà Vu was greatly anticipated after the popularity of the first CSN album and the addition of Young to the group. Stills estimates that the album took around 800 hours of studio time to record; this figure may be exaggerated, even though the individual tracks display meticulous attention to detail. The songs, except for "Woodstock", were recorded as individual sessions by each member, with each contributing whatever was needed that could be agreed upon. Young does not appear on all of the tracks, and drummer Dallas Taylor and bassist Greg Reeves are credited on the cover with their names in slightly smaller typeface. Jerry Garcia plays pedal steel on "Teach Your Children" and John Sebastian plays mouth-harp on the title track.
Four singles were released from the album with all but the last (Carry On) charting on the Hot 100.
The popularity of the album contributed to the success of the four albums released by each of the members in the wake of Déjà Vu: Neil Young's After The Gold Rush, Stephen Stills' self-titled solo debut: Stephen Stills, David Crosby's If I Could Only Remember My Name, and Graham Nash's Songs For Beginners.
In 2003, the album was ranked number 148 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.] The same year, the TV network VH1 named Déjà Vu the 61st greatest album of all time. The album ranked at #14 for the Top 100 Albums of 1970 and #217 overall by Rate Your Music.
The album was reissued for compact disc after being remastered from the original tapes at Oceanview Digital Mastering by Joe Gastwirt on September 6, 1994. In 1997, guitarist Fareed Haque covered the entire album in jazz form for the Blue Note Cover Series.

- Fabulous pressing. Mine is absolutely dead quiet amd perfectly flat. Warping can often occur in transit, which may account for some of the issues mentioned earlier. The cover is beautifully executed too
- Edited 21 hours agoPeople, for the LOVE of God…
Invest in a Vinyl Flat (if your record is warped) and wet clean your new records!!
You’ll find 99% of new records are virtually perfect after both of these steps are accounted for. - I have this version (same labels, same cover) with R/S Alsdorf A2/B3x STRAWBERRY matrix. Sound is extremely good !
(in the same way like some Led Zeppelin Alsdorf reissues with Strawbwerry mastering from this (early 80's) era). referencing Déjà Vu (LP, Album, Reissue, Gatefold) KSD 19118
Terrific sounding pressing with good soundstage space, top-end clarity & nice balanced bass. Canuck vinyl is whisper-quiet as well...- Spinning this... it is flat, practically noise free, and sounds damn good. I must've gotten lucky, no skips on mine (as other have had issues with). Highly enjoyable press IMO.
- Took a chance and grabbed this for a bargain $30CAD. Flawless quiet pressing, detailed, rich and crisp. Sure it’s not perfectly flat but that’s what a weight is for. Very satisfying purchase and makes me feel just fine not shelling out triple $ for the AP pressing. Minor gripe, the jacket is probably half the weight of the original I used to have, but the gold foil printing is still nice. Great buy!
- Very good. Sound is dynamic. There are better pressings but you’ll pay much higher prices while this pressing is very good and likely more affordable. Worth seeking out.
- Edited 4 months agoIt’s too bad engineers and artists of this time were so enamored with stereo separation. This record starts in such a way that I thought my right channel speaker had come disconnected. This extreme stereo obsession ruined so many records of this time period.
Beyond that, this is a really bright pressing. Mild distortion throughout. I suspect the better your system is, the more you notice. I’ll clean it again and see if it improves, but as of now, this is mildly disappointing. - This is one of the best things I own, along with the CSNY 1974 wood box set. Such a beauty.
Tip on style jackets for all 4 gatefolds and the box is glorious. I’d say grab it while you can. - This box set kicks so much ass. I'm honestly a little shocked, especially with how hit or miss modern vinyl pressing can be. I have an OG press, which sounds great, but this might best that across the board. Excellent press, quality box, and lots of extras to contextualize this whole thing. Crystal clear, punchy, full clarity. Snag a copy.
