Peter Murphy – Cascade

Disappointing pressing to say the least. Mild warping and muddy sound in the mids of the instruments. It’s actually hard to figure out how it is happening because Peter’s voice is very nice throughout, but when there is a complexity of instruments things get muddled and a bit distorted while his voice is unwavering. I will most likely look to acquire an older release to find the quality this music deserves to be delivered with.

This is a cool reissue and is fun to have on LP, but the CD sounds better, as usual. The vinyl renaissance is a joke. I typically play reissue vinyl once and stick with the original CDs for superior quality.

Top to bottom great tracks. Excellent musicians and production. This is how CDs are supposed to sound. No need for the vinyl unless you’re a collector. In my opinion Murphy’s finest solo work as a complete album.

wow, how i love cascade! i have been always love peters voice and his stuff with bauhaus, but not all of his solo work is on this level. dust and deep were my favorites, but then i bought cascade some weeks ago and since then i have listening to it in heavy rotation style and with every round it becomes better and better.

for me this is not only peters best album, it is a real masterpiece.

here comes all toegether in a perfect way: the band is on fire and awesome, the production sounds timeless, all songs are really wonderful and in the right order and above that peter is on the top of his game, his singing is incredible on cascade.

it sounds to me, that peter and his backing band had a really good time in the studio, very inspired.

i love also the backing vocals, which is rare.

the music is not experimental like on dust, it is more like deep, timeless, strong songs, that stays in the head.

it is not a collection of songs, but a real album!

i am very impressed and delighted and so happy i bought it blindly.

for me it would be an album i would take to a lonely island like some albums by chris connelly and robyn hitchcock.

so, if you like peter murphy/ bauhaus, don't waste your time and get it!

No quality control problems on mine, everything sounds great. Anyone know where those last two bonus tracks are from? Were they ever recorded with vocals somewhere?

Scarlet vinyl is gorgeous. Having only had this on CD it has been years since we listened to the work from beginning to end. Perfect on a rainy summer Saturday.

My favorite Peter Murphy album and one of my favorite albums of that era. Each song builds upon the previous and feels like his other solo work was all building to the refinement of this gothic masterpiece. He has other wonderful solo material but not with this flair from start to finish. When an artist can go over the top with the bold dramatic statements and still keep the ship moving forward it’s a rare accomplishment.

This is the first reissue in this series that I am disappointed with. The sound quality seems to vary from track to track and to add to it, my first record was warped and slightly off center on side 1 (not enough to detract from listening but annoying nonetheless). Sides, 2, 3, and 4 also off center though less so than side 1. Also going to need to run this one through the cleaning machine as it's very noisy out of the sleeves. Of course Amazon doesn't have returns on this and will only offer an exchange of a different title so I'll have to look elsewhere for a replacement.

These reviews are totally surprising to me my copy is perfect and sounds great I couldn’t be happier to have this record for $22. It’s quiet In the lows, but still dynamic and I feel that songs are some of Peter’s best work.

I have absolutely no problem with the packaging at all (however if mine came warped I would probably feel differently)
