Metallica is the fifth studio album by American heavy metal band Metallica, released on August 12th, 1991 by Elektra, commonly referred to as The Black Album because of its packaging.

The album marked a change in the band's music from the thrash metal style of their previous four albums to a slower, heavier, and more refined sound. This album made metal universal, but also created a gap between older and newest fans.

It became the band's best-selling album, certified 16× platinum by the RIAA in 2012, and has sold over 16,000,000 copies in the United States.

The snake in the artwork and the track "Don't Tread On Me" were inspired by the Gadsden flag, a historical American flag designed in 1775.

The cover is almost black; James Hetfield said "It was a simple black cover and you had to listen to the music.
You wouldn't be distracted by a drawing on the front."

Just compared this to the high-res streaming version. The high res sounds amazing, and this pressing somehow sounds even better. Incredible low end kick and clarity. No need to pay $600 for an OG.

If you want this on vinyl but don't want to spend the money for an original, this will be fine.
When you compare this to any of the original 91 pressings (they use US stampers), it sounds like a blanket was thrown over my speakers, and it's not as punchy, loud, heavy, and plenty of bite like the 91 pressings

A grail that I finally managed to get last year.

Sounds absolutely amazing and miles better than the CD. Just so punchy, loud, heavy, and plenty of bite. Only thing is a little of sibilance, but I'll take it.
I compared it to the 2015 reissue I had for years, and that sounds like a blanket was thrown over my speakers, and the stuff I said about the 91 pressing is not there as much.
If it's an album you love, or want the best then get this. Don't think it's really much different to the US

Killer pressing with tons of bass drum slam, crystal clear screaming guitar solos, and all the audiophile-gasmic dynamics you could want. Play it LOUD!

I've heard this pressing on a few different setups. Played with an Ortofon 2M Bronze and Clearaudio SmartV2 was Chef's Kiss!! 🧑🏼‍🍳 💋

Does anyone have 'this copy' but it's just double black vinyl? I've got one that has the code at the bottom for this and d**n as I'm writing this I remembered I bought this used and am now realizing someone swapped the discs................ :(

Deep bass, strong guitars, clear vocals and the drums sound so much real! Really good pressing mastered at Sterling, really crankable, sounds like having the band playing in front of you.
I noticed very strong sibilance on the vocals of Nothing Else Matters though. It's a very hot cut.

This is the ONE. No pressing is better. The 2008 is not, the simply vinyl is not, the latest pressing certainly isn't. Buy this record and thank me later lol. This is the Nirvana Nevermind of Metal. Iconic, rare, punchy af pressing. Couldn't be happier to have one in NM shape.
