- With this box, they have committed a crime: it's all "enhanced" with electronic stereo (and probably electronic echo as well). So, beware, and don't buy this crap. This should get banned from the Discogs market. By the way, I doubt that the "mono"-pressings are sounding better. One can always add reverb to destroy the great music.
They are even proud of it: https://www.discogs.com/release/4689280-Various-The-Great-Band-Era-1936-1945/image/SW1hZ2U6MjgzNDI0OTI=?ev=item-vc
Now, what did I say above? The "mono"-tracks had been "enhanced" too, of course with electronic echo: https://www.discogs.com/release/3865578-Various-The-Top-Bands-Play-10-Years-Of-Top-Tunes-1936-1945/image/SW1hZ2U6MTIxMzQ3MDI= - Also issued as a whittled-down 2x 8-track set with six songs per program, 48 songs total, issued in a small presentation box (side by side, with attached lid) with track listing. This is apparently meant to represent the entire span of the series and is not the first half of a set. (This is completely different than the 4x 8-track set with 28 songs per tape, also in hand.)
- I love the way this collection is packaged.Very solid outer and inner box. I am a rock n' roll guy so this is a little out of my league but this collection contains so many of the biggest big band names of that era. The one I have is just in supreme condition. Albums never played by me though that may change. I'm surprised a 10 album set like this costs so little but I guess that era was a long time ago. Rock n' roll may be headed down the same road.
