I know there's plenty more than can be added - djthumpa I know you're a bit of a DJ Scorpio savant - is there anything obvious I'm missing?

I know he's probably played more tunes on G.T.I. for starters.

I was hoping to get some titles from Roll Da Beats but that sites been took down - has the content been transferred/re-uploaded anywhere else?

I'm 99% sure I discovered this record from a Scorpio set: https://www.discogs.com/release/171915-DJ-Deadly-Buda-Themes-For-Androgenous-Superheroes (the Hulk track) but can't remember for the life of me which one.

and I would say the most famous Scorpio obscurity is this gem: https://www.discogs.com/release/366439-DJ-Smurf-Suicide-EP

A strange one indeed, was gonna mention it back when John made the original post as I've only heard it played (I'm assuming by Scorpio) on the Scorpio & Dolphin last North Radical set, 2nd from last tune > https://soundcloud.com/magpie303/scorpio-dolphin-north-radical-pack-vol-4-last-north-event It's the one remaining unknown ID on the LSDB tracklist. I think he has also played a track off the Kid 121 W/L too.

Yeah I've got that other Kid release on his list so he has played it.

Managed to get another 20 or so titles from this thread added in.

the one with the guitar intro that he starts out at the wrong speed

Neurobug, No-Tek - W-Strax > https://www.discogs.com/release/158770-No-Tek-Exp-02 ...the "M'S" track on the same side is another played by Scorpio/Producer. My pick from that record was always the B2. Voice Of Sails which I'm sure you'll know from more acid based sets.
  • traffic_cone 11 months ago

Fuck sake. Not only have I got a copy already, it was literally one of the records I listed on eBay *this evening* :D
  • core25 11 months ago

I'd love to know that Clarkee space-acid intro tune that you can hear right at the very end of this Scorpio set. There is a full tracklist for it starting at Area 51 "Neutron Bomb" but omits the intro.
  • traffic_cone 11 months ago

oh man, i have been looking for that for a very long time. the Zoom pack was my first Technodrome tape pack. and I have a weirdly clear memory of listening to the Clarkee set walking on a dark night on holiday in rural Ireland - that intro in particular.

I've tried searching for specific phrases from that intro but to no luck. I'm sure it's on some trance EP, he was playing a bit of that stuff then...but other than that, no idea.

iincidentally 'm pretty sure the listing for that pack on here is wrong though: https://www.discogs.com/release/7149926-Various-The-Technodrome - although I don't have it to check. I don't remember a Colin Favor set (although I think my copy had a tape from a different pack in it).
  • traffic_cone 11 months ago

had a listen to another of my favourite old Scorpio tapes, from Keep The Fires Burning: includes a few personal favourites I forgot were on this tape. curious if anyone knows the 2 gaps (both techno tunes on 45 I'm sure).

GTO - Untitled (from Gangsta Trax on Kill Out)
    Ectomorph - Heartbeat
Lenny Dee - Stone Cold Lover
Critical Mass - Psychotic Break (Lenny Dee remix)
    Sigma 909 - Mechanica
Federation Against Mellow - R U On Drugs
    Maniac of Noise - Mokummania
    Micropoint - Dirty Vinyl
Ilsa Gold - 4 Blond Nons
    Micropoint - Metal Head
    Cookiemunsta - Madnessinsanity
    Mutoid - Fuckin Mind
The Speed Freak - Give It To Me
    Sulfurex - Point Break
    ???
    ???
    Delta 9 - The One & Only
System Shock - In The Dark Pt 1
    ACAB - We Are ACAB
R Wagner - Zone Of Disaster
    Bountyhunter - Aboriginal
Pineapple Jack - Do That Dance
    Technohead - The Passion

My turn for a fuck sake moment! :D I wrote the sample out as accurately as I could and the last sentence is "Free your mind and set yourself free to the music of THE INSIDER". Yeah, you know why that's in capitals... it's Insider - The Insider track on "Enter The Electra World (World 2)" [Bonzai] > https://www.discogs.com/release/135428-Insider-Enter-The-Electra-World-World-2. I have it for the B2 track with the sample "takes me away forever" that Bass Generator used to play on 45. That's some serious brain glitch, just never remembered it being on there.

I don't have the Zoom tapepack either but looking on this list there's no mention of a Colin Favor set https://soundcloud.com/jamie-price-567485084/sets/helter-skelter-zoom-technodrome-9-12-1995

Here's one that's not on the Scorpio list, played on a Techno Gods '95 set (on 45) > Waveforms - Vexation https://www.discogs.com/release/113497-Waveforms-Sector-One-EP
  • traffic_cone 11 months ago

oh wow, good spot. listening to it again obviously the line at the end is the bit I missed - I think he does start playing "Neutron Bomb" over it. so that record had two long running mystery Technodrome IDs on it, nice :D

    core25

yep. I think the Music Maker set is the only one I don't entirely recognise, so i think that must be the one that was missing from mine. the others are very familiar :D although the one i know best is the Druid one - it's funny how radically different it is to all of the others :D

Back to Scorpio, this should probably be added to the list too: https://www.discogs.com/release/94275-Various-Bonzai-Classix-1

He used to play "Second Rebirth" on the wrong speed, and that seems to be the only pressing of it on 33...

had a listen to one of my favourite Scorpio sets (Technodrome Zoom) and I don't think these are in the list:

    https://www.discogs.com/release/229045-Disintegrated-Pulse-Disintegrated-Pulse
    https://www.discogs.com/release/226369-Agro-The-Association-Of-Autonomous-Astronauts-EP
    https://www.discogs.com/release/229040-Symmetry-Hardcore-Vibes
    https://www.discogs.com/release/15084-The-Montini-Experience-II-Astrosyn
    https://www.discogs.com/release/22178-Sigma-909-Party-People
    https://www.discogs.com/release/89995-Nasenbluten-The-Really-Nasty-Violent-Sex-EP
    https://www.discogs.com/release/20528-Bazooka-On-Da-Battlefield

and I'd love to know what the tune at 53 minutes is: https://soundcloud.com/magpie303/scorpio-helter-skelter-zoom-1995-technodrome - the one with the guitar intro that he starts out at the wrong speed :D - sounds like E-De-Cologne maybe?

Yeah they are on the list. Unless you mean the setlist (as opposed to his list of mine?)

Reason I say that anyway is because it's worth pointing out, some people mail me and say X/Y/Z isn't on the list - but if you bring up the titles master release page (the one where it then shows you official release, a white label promo or digital versions of it underneath) then it doesn't display as if the item is on someone's list at the side of the page - you need to click on the main release and then it shows as in their list.

yeah I think when i wrote that, the "list" section was set to "hidden". I'm an idiot.

out of curiosity - what do you do about Scorpio & Producer b2b? I remember one which had some surprising tunes on it (Neuron - Coco's Theme for one), but I don't know how you would know which tunes were played by which DJ.

I've not heard a Scorpio & Producer B2B (I don't think) with that Neuron tune (I have it in Producer's list tho)

I actually (surprisingly) don't have a lot of Scottish tunes in Scorpio's list - maybe a dozen, max.

Maybe it's the wrong way to do it, but if it's a genuine B2B then I generally add the title to both DJ's list/s.

Obviously there's no proof that both DJ's instead of 1 own the tune but I don't know that they don't own it either?

I do try to treat it on it's merits though and apply some common sense to it - for example if it's something really really rare and I've only ever heard 1 of the 2 DJ's play it, then I'll only add it to the one list.

But a lot of these tracks it's not inconceivable that a lot of these DJ's will have owned a majority of the same tunes when the scene was at it's peak.

I could be really wrong but I just don't think the alternative is a better way to do it which is add no tunes to any lists from the B2B sets.
  • John_Galbraith 11 months ago

The biggest problem I have with these lists atm is that the bigger lists (800-1000+ items) after a while it won't let me swap the tiles about or move them by clicking the drop down and typing the position/number on the list it's to move to the correct place to have it in order the way I want it.

I've tried everything even messaging Discogs support but nothing back.

It's frustrating having the lists nicely laid out and readable with their titles and then several hundred at the very end of the last page or two on the list sitting unorganised because when I try to put them in position it knocks others out and I can't get them back into their spaces again.

found it, it's this set: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pP8GAuM6iZs

does sound out of place, almost as if they meant to play one of the other tracks...

    Bountyhunter - Aboriginal
    Deathsquad - Street Knowledge
    Technohead - I Wanna Be A Hippy
    Neuron - Coco's Theme
    Track Ball - Mokum Moves
Bass D, King Matthew, DJ XD - Heartbeat
    AXL - My 2nd Strike
Nasenbluten - Blows To The Nose
Eraserhead - Life Is A Mystery (Speed Freak remix)
Original Gabba - I Wanna Be A MF Hustler
    Future Viper - Paranoid Beauty
    Buzz Fuzz - Countdown
Buzz Fuzz & The Prophet - Thundertheme
    Nasenbluten - Concrete Compressor
    Ingler - Trek
    Creepozoid - Outer Limits
Annihilator - I'll Show You My Gun
    Bertocucci Ferananzo - Ravers Movement
Scott Brown & Darrien Kelly - Geleihoofd
    The Dentist - Hooj Riot
    Edge & Producer - Apocalyptic
and i think I hear a second or two of DJ Fistfuck - Pussy Poison at the very end.

excellent set (even Magika sounds sort of bearable when he pops up near the end)

I could probably guess which ones were played by Producer - but obviously that doesn't mean the other ones are definitely Scorpio!

Thanks TC - I'll get them cross referenced and added if needed.
  • John_Galbraith 11 months ago

How good a tune is Hooj Riot btw - always been one of my favourites.

So simple and so full of energy.

What does Hooj even mean? obviously there's the label too that done some fantastic Trance and Progressive in the 90's.
  • traffic_cone 11 months ago

I think it's just a "fun" way of spelling huge...don't think it has another meaning? Could just be some random gibberish or inside joke (which I believe the name Boscaland was).

It's interesting that the B side of Hooj Riot is "Live At Energiehallen, Rotterdam", because I read an interview with Baby Doc where he mentions playing there with The Dentist and going down like a lead balloon :D I like the idea of having a shit gig then releasing it on vinyl.

oh and I think #3 on the last set is Waveforms - Vexation (not 100% sure cos its played so fast)

See also my comment on Scorpio live at North 13, there are too many versions (3) of Scorpio's set for that event (see further), can't be all correct. 1 set in particular is oldskool breakbeat/rave, for which i know some ID's, but... :

    https://lsdb.nl/set/85216/scorpio-north-nsa-13-radical-technology-28-12-99#c558447

    Here's attributed to North 13:
    https://soundcloud.com/magpie303/scorpio-b2b-dolphin-nsa-13-north-radical-technology
    http://www.mediafire.com/download/3x441a9lsm27uem/Scorpio+B2B+Dolphin+%40+North+NSA+13.mp3

    http://www.mediafire.com/?88bjiagt80qne4e

Mediafire mp3 link reads '03-03-2000'. North 13 happened on 28-12-1999.
The first track in the Mediafire mp3 is 'Hellfish - Radical Digital', as early as 2000 (?) and only on CD? https://www.discogs.com/release/66030-Various-Untitled. I smell something fishy here (lol).

One or even two of the sets is/are wrongly credited to North 13, or Scorpio played two sets, because there's also the b2b set with Dolphin to which the tracklist above applies https://lsdb.nl/set/170227/scorpio-b2b-dolphin-north-nsa-13-radical-technology-28-12-99 .
  • traffic_cone 11 months ago

    based on the first link...

the tune after "Patterns In Chaos" is David Lagon - Total Space (Provision 5)
the tune with the Headbanger kick is Tommyknocker & MC Lob - Full Of Shit (Traxtorm)

I don't have a copy any more to check - but I think that Spectator track on Core Trexx does have that Casino sample.

good spot - great record that (both sides). Not sure why it's listed as it is on here - I always knew it as Mega 2, since that's all the label says...but I defer to the Discogs nerd overlords.

Also to be pedantic the label for the releases with the WHITE catalogue numbers,is F Project (related to Formation)

Nice set. And I like that he plays a tune from pre-Deathchant Diplomat's first EP. I'd love to hear more oldskool breakbeat sets of his. From that time though - the "old skool" sets I've heard are a lot more standard anthem bashing (like most DJs to be fair).

    Discogs has these listed:
    https://www.discogs.com/release/12267003-DJ-Scorpio-Obsessed-DJ-Scorpio-Promo-Oct-93
    https://www.discogs.com/release/2372415-DJ-Scorpio-Promo-July-1993

I think both to do with World of Obsession, one of the big raves in his part of the country around then. But I don't think those have been ripped anywhere?

    traffic_cone
I'm 99% sure I discovered this record from a Scorpio set: https://www.discogs.com/release/171915-DJ-Deadly-Buda-Themes-For-Androgenous-Superheroes (the Hulk track) but can't remember for the life of me which one.

I know what this is now. It's a tribute mix he did for HMS - I remember a few people doing them when the news about his passing spread. I found the tracklist here: http://www.blackoutaudio.co.uk/forum/threads/55228-DJ-Scorpio-HMS-Tribute-Set-Jan-2008 - but the Mediafire link is dead.
